Alright lets get this party started.
So I saw the movie. I won't spoil anything here, (although it's not really hard to figure out this movie) anyway I posted the pick of the evil general cause I found his 1-dimensional determination more interesting than the forced/shallow 3-dimensions of the main characters. Which brings me to my real thoughts about the movie.
1. Cameron obviously wanted this to be extremely simple. Why? I'm not sure, I figure his target audience was the guys who actually loved transformers 2, or young soldiers or wannabe soldiers. Kinda like telling them, "hey, maybe attacking foreigners isn't as cut and dry as our country and its leaders often make it." Cause clearly the main character is the same kid they show in those marine commercials. At least that's my reasoning as to why I think someone of Cameron's level would make such a simple plot.
2. But that leads me to a bias I'm seeing. It's ok for Cameron to tell a simple action story with pretty graphics but no-one else. Imagine if another director did the same thing. They'd be ridiculed for being shallow, not praised. It makes me think about the Speed Racer movie, (which I loved, although i could clearly see arguments for an asian cast) regardless of what u think of it, it was a simple but extremely pretty action film that tried out new visual techniques. Imagine if that movie was in 3-d. probably would have people throwing up like they were actually in a rollercoaster, lol. But for some reason this movie was a critical failure. and apparently another loss for the Wachowskis (lol can't call them brothers anymore). It pisses me off. then again i think this movie is also a big promotion for more useless tech advancements. like that phone that has a projector. or the new 3-d widescreen tvs. so maybe that's why no-one is publicly talking bad about or ignoring this film's flaws
3. However the world they created was pretty interesting. honestly i wish the movie was more of some kind of Discovery Channel special. where it just focused on the native world and it's inhabitants.
4. And lastly the cg was pretty good. but no-where near flawless. i felt like everything had a plastic sheen to it. man i look at the hi-res trailers for ff13 and i'm like that's way more interesting and they don't have a 500 million dollar budget.
